Worldbuilding 101 | Pricing Starts at $5,200

Are you sitting on a perfect plot and compelling characters ‘cause you’re stumped on the worldbuilding? Does your brain spit out plots on demand but just totally shut down when you’ve got to come up with a setting? Are you running into roadblocks trying to develop a robust fantasy culture (while being respectful of irl cultures?)

Perhaps…

  • You’re working on a game, and your protagonists are gonna meet some elves, (because like Samwise, we know elves are real freakin hot - err - awesome) But like. Fuck the fantasy forest amiright? You’re positive there’s GOT to be a better setting but JRR has dug his claws so tight into the collective consciousness that you’re drawing a TOTAL blank.

  • The tough, world-weary interplanar tour guide has seen it all, and they’re taking your soft sweet cinnamon roll of a protagonist on The Adventure Of A Lifetime across the galaxy and a few alternate planes of reality. Or...they would, except you’ve got no idea what those other planes of existence even look like? How do they get there? Your specialty is characters, dangit, and this is starting to feel overwhelming. Help!

  • You’ve got a really solid story, with characters you love, and landmarks you’re proud of, and a plot that makes sense! But...you feel like something’s a little flat. Your castle is...just a castle. It’s missing the kind of lore and depth that make a fantasy world believable, but you’re all out of ideas, and in desperate need of some brainstorming.

Here’s how we’ll work together: 

  • Prework: You’ll fill out my handy lil survey and tell me about your world and story as it stands, and tell me where you’re looking for help, and what kind of involvement you’re looking for. (ie: you have a world and you need a brainstorming buddy to review and edit, vs you have a character and plot and you need help building the whole world from scratch.)

  • Foundations: We’ll meet over Zoom for one hour to discuss your worldbuilding needs and develop a creative brief and plan for tackling your project together.

  • Framing The World: I’ll scoot on back to my wizard’s tower and get to work! I’ll walk through your existing work and develop markups and questions, identifying places where the world needs shoring up, any inconsistencies, or areas of concern.

  • Sticks & Stones: After that, we’ll meet 1x a week for 5 weeks to develop your worldbuilding foundation. Each meeting will be 80 minutes long, and will be a mix of writing development exercises, live problem solving, and deciding what to keep and what to pare away. I’ll provide a recap document after each call covering what we’ve tackled so you have a roadmap each week.

    • There will be homework for you during this phase! Plan for ~10 hours of homework in between each session as we develop this world together.

  • Le Fin: At the end of our time working together, we’ll have gone through your novel/game 2x and developed the structure and setting you need to tell your story.

As a final deliverable…

I’ll provide a 25 page document covering the worldbuilding foundations we’ve laid, including key aspects of culture, magic and technology, religion and belief systems, and lore. This document will include a summary of the work we’ve done together and will give you a roadmap to building further on the foundations.
